Franka Potente (born July 22, 1974) is a German actress. After a notable debut in It's a Jungle Out There and two unconventional movies by Tom Tykwer including the international hit, Lola rennt (Run Lola Run), Potente has starred in several Hollywood movies, most prominently Blow, The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, alongside Matt Damon. She is currently writing and directing Der die Tollkirsche ausgräbt, a silent comedy.
Franka also lent her voice to the soundtrack to Run Lola Run, singing the main songs used in the film.
Franka Potente was born in Dülmen, North Rhine-Westphalia, the older of two children. Her father was a teacher and her mother was a medical assistant. Her family name derives from her great-great-grandfather, who was from Sicily. Franka was a foreign exchange student at age 17 in Texas, where she attended dances and loved to sketch her fellow classmates.
Spotted by a casting agent at age 19, she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. She currently lives in Berlin. |
