Roberts grew up in a very traditional Mormon family. Her father was a Bishop, one of the key positions within the Mormon Church. Roberts says her upbringing gave her a strong sense of values and a good work ethic. After high school she went to college in Utah for fashion and design but quit after 2 years and took a job in retail management in Los Angeles. It was during this time that she met Dayton, another pornstar and learned about the adult business.

Roberts met Dayton at the Key Club in Hollywood who well known by the locals for their live music, where the two became fast friends. At the time Dayton was working as a contract star for Vivid Video and took Roberts in to meet with a executive of the firm. However during that time in Vivid's history, they were distracted with being bought out by Hustler and nicely told Roberts that she's a pretty girl but right now they weren't interested.

Dayton then introduced Roberts to some other friends and through those introductions she was able to get work with the low budget porn producers, Metro. In late 2000 and early 2001 she worked for Metro in three movies, Wild Cherries, All Teens Love Cum 1 and All Fucked Up. Roberts was not happy with the quality of the movies or her working conditions and as a result almost quit the adult business all together. However as luck would have it, she would meet former pornstar Jill Kelly who had just started her own movie studio and was looking for fresh young faces. Kelly hired Roberts for a role in her new movie Immorta, starring along side Devon who had recently left Vivid and long time industry veteran, Asia Carrera. This was the first time Roberts met Devon and they formed a friendship that would last many years and later they would even do business together in Roberts's own company.

After working for Jill Kelly, Roberts also did some movies for some low budget companies like Odyssey, Evil Angel and Digital Sin. However in 2002 she would get her lucky break when would secure a 2 year deal with VCA Pictures. The deal wasn't overly lucrative and within a few months she wanted out. A friend of hers suggested she give Vivid Entertainment another try as things on their end had begun to settle down. Roberts got out of her contract with VCA and signed a two year contract with Vivid Entertainment that included 6 movies a year. Her first three films for Vivid won her critical acclaim, all gaining the highest reviewer ratings. These movies were Most Beautiful Girl in the World, Unlovable and Dual Identity.
